Hold Your Breath

Okay son
It's a crazy world
We brought you into
The first sound you heard
Were your own cries

I didn't have the best role model
For a father
But, I did the best I could
To transform a boy
Into a man

I messed up many times
Along the way
Took a few dives
Let slip some racial slurs
Lashed out in anger
On your behind

But after regretting what I did
I always empathised
Admiring your drive
Your passion
But, most of all
Your kind heart
Filling mine with pride
Making me a better man

Take care of your mother
She won't be long after me
Do you see him waiting for me
To take my last.....breath?
