Unsung Heroes

Generation after generation
Women are born
Third class citizens
Probably further down
The food chain
Depending on ones
Race, color, creed
And sexual orientation

Still they press forward
In a male oppressed world
Where women get the care jobs
While the boys
Play with their toys
Destroying all their mothers
Fought so hard to raise

A decent man they say
Is hard to find
So in a crazy world
The losers win most of the time

But, in the end
After more than her share
Of disappointments
She realises the guy
She never paid no mind
Was a decent guy all along

Now she thinks back
To when her mother
Told her so
And smiles

Trying to make a better world
Remembering the life lessons
Of our mothers
