Sleeping Beauty

Over a decade ago
I first saw
The most radiant beauty
Flickering in an open window

Under normal circumstances
I would be a fool and rush in
Yet she doesn't draw me near

There's something strange about this fire
Where most come with a warning
Something simple like
Keep a safe distance
Or, approach with caution

This beauty burned cold
Giving off a surprising amount of heat
A seeker of attention
Can never be pleased

A femme fatale
That will always want
Dangerous to feed
Into her desires

She sits still
Unhappy with her partner
In the open window

Over the years
Many suitors have been drawn to her
Extinguishing her fire from within

Like incubi in the wind
Leaving in their wake
A sleeping beauty
