The Inconvenience Store

A city that never sleeps
Both day and night
A twenty-four-hour inconvenience store
Populated by insomniacs

Who in their delirium
Not knowing the pleasures
Of REM sleep
Combined with listening to countless tourists
Going on about how they always dreamed
Of one day visiting
The greatest city in the world

Just pushes New Yorkers
Over the edge
And into the realm of insanity

Trying to relive
The latest cinematic action sequences
Resulting in the kind of
Bang bang shoot 'em up
Grindhouse death scenes
Usually left on the cutting room floor

Now during the day New York
May appear a futuristic city
A film set stolen
From the imagination of Ridley Scott

But, at night
Before you close your eyes
After wishing your loved ones goodnight
Make sure to tell the city
To shut its eyes
And leave you in peace
While you dream of other cities
One day you'll visit
